Shabbona Forest Preserve
A bird flying over the northern Illinois farm fields has few places to refuel during migration; one of these is the 1,550-acre Shabbona Lake State Recreation Area, southwest of DeKalb in northern Illinois. An oasis in the middle of row crops, this park, though built to serve boaters, fishermen, and hunters, also attracts birds, especially during migration. Call (815) 895-7191 for more information.
